Chemical Peels

One of the most troublesome problems for patients are the deep and progressive lines around the mouth. This is not only a classic sign of “aging,” it is also a practical problem as lipstick tends to “run” up those lines causing noticeable irregularities of the lip line.

Certain chemical peel solutions have been shown to be effective in improving the appearance of the aging lines around the mouth. These peels are either based on 35% TCA [trichloracetic acid], or phenol-crotin oil solutions. The number of peels necessary to elimininate most of the lines depends on the number and depth of the existing lines.

In most cases we recommend that patients undergo a chemical peel to the involved area every 3 months until they are satisfied with the appearance of the skin, and then every 6 months as "maintenance" to protect and preserve the area.

In the interim we encourage patients to maximize the potential of their skin with our SkinGlow® program and regular microdermabrasion treatments. These stronger peels are only performed by Dr. Burlin.
