Chin Enhancement

INTRODUCTION

Symmetry, balance, and harmony are essential components of facial beauty. The chin, along with the nose, determines your facial profile. In those circumstances when the chin is “weak” or “small,” the insertion of an implant can restore more normal proportions to the face, and provide a very positive impact on your self image. Chin enhancement surgery can either be performed alone or commonly in conjunction with Face/Neck Life or Nasal surgery.

ANALYSIS

The goal of surgery is to make you happy. We will want to know your goals of treatment, both in terms of the kind of look you would like to achieve as well as the kind of look you would like to avoid. We will carefully examine you and make measurements as indicated. Implants are made of a solid silicone material and come in a number of shapes and sizes. Measurements obtained assist in selecting the ideal implant for you.

The objective of surgery is a very natural result. Patients often fear that their chin will be too large. This effect is almost always the result of over-aggressive treatment by the surgeon. We specifically avoid any form of overcorrection. That kind of “overdone” look is totally contrary to our artistic goals and treatment objectives.

Following the analysis we will present to you a recommendation for chin implantation. We will discuss the procedure with you and also advise you of the potential risks and complications of this surgery. We will outline your recovery period and make focused suggestions to make your surgery experience safe, easy, and as pleasant as possible.

PROCEDURE

The surgery usually takes between ½ to ¾ hours to perform. The implant is usually inserted via a small incision under the chin. If the chin implant surgery is being done alone, it will usually be done under local anesthesia. If the chin implant is being done at the same time as another procedure, you will most likely be asleep for the surgery in order to minimize anxiety and maximize comfort.

AFTERCARE

Recovery from chin enhancement surgery is usually very rapid.

Discomfort is minimal. Your “down time” will be about 3-5 days. You will apply ice compresses frequently during these first few days after surgery. You will look “good” in only one week, and “great” in one month. Chin implants are usually considered permanent.
